We talk a lot about how we want to live. About good food, beautiful places, mindful travel and the balance between work and leisure. Yet a simple question can easily slip from view: Do we actually feel alive?

Aliveness is the theme of this issue. It explores people who shift familiar perspectives, the possibilities of art and fashion, and cooking and eating together as a way of sharing our lives. And our relationship with nature, which is far more than the backdrop to our everyday existence. These stories revolve around one question: What gives our lives substance?

Feeling alive has little to do with a full calendar. It reveals itself in curiosity, in encounters and in the courage to embrace something whose outcome remains uncertain. That may sound obvious. In a world that rewards efficiency, turns attention into currency and schedules even our free time, it has become anything but.

Aliveness is therefore no call to savour every moment or draw a lesson from every experience. It is about looking more closely again: at the people around us, our environment and what truly interests us. Because a good life is also measured by how much of the world we let in.

With this issue, we turn our attention to stories, ideas and people that reveal the many forms aliveness can take. And remind us that it rarely emerges where everything is already decided.
